CHESAPEAKE - John D. Mayer, 83, of the 2900 block of Wingfield Avenue, departed this life on May 27, 2008. Born in Barnesville, GA. and raised in Birmingham, AL., Mr. Mayer was a US Navy Veteran and a retiree of the US Civil Service. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Lamberts Point in Norfolk, VA. where he was a member of the usher board. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Annie Mae Mayer, father John Mayer Jr., a devoted wife of 27 years, Jean Mayer, three sons Rudolph Mayer, John “Lil John” Mayer and Winston Mayer, two daughters Beverly Mayer and Linda Mayer, a sister, Catherine Richards, brother-in-law John Richards, and a grandson, Brian Jackson. He is survived by a sister, Vivian Paige (Jessie) of Birmingham, AL., a brother Rudolph Mayer (Rosa Mae) of Columbia, SC., four daughters, Anita Mahone-Riddick (James) of Va. Beach, VA, Angela Mayer of Chesapeake, VA, Shilda Jamison of Norfolk, VA. and Linnette Perrimon (Michael) of Chesapeake, VA. Four sons, Keith Mayer of Chesapeake, VA., Michael Wallace Sr. (Venette) of Germany, Wesley Sims (Beverly) of Tennessee, Willie Sims (Carol) of Pittsburg, PA. and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and other family. A funeral will be held Tuesday, June 3, at First Baptist Church of Lamberts Point in Norfolk, VA. at 11:30 a.m. Family and friends will gather at the home of Mr. Mayer, one hour prior to service for processional. Internment will be held at Roosevelt Memorial Cemetery.
